A MORNING WITH AVANTIKA AKERKAR

 Our guest today is the charming and dynamic Avantika Akerkar. After having lived in New York for many years, she returned to India to work on civic and social issues.  However in 2001, through a serendipitous encounter with Dolly Thakore, Avantika took to the stage in her first role in Quasar Padamsee’s Lunch Girls.

 Since then she’s acted in over 20 plays including for the Royal Court theatre festival held in Mumbai, for the BBC radio as well as in many international films: The Loins of Punjab, The World Unseen; The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Rockstar and more. She’s worked with Oscar winning actors including Jane Fonda, Marissa Tomei, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Richard Gere. And has performed on stage with Eve Ensler in the much-celebrated Vagina Monologues. She’s performed opposite Michael McDowell, Ayesha Dharker and Jesse Metcalfe; and on the local scene, with Shabana Azmi, Konkona Sen, Vijay Raaz, and more.  She has also produced plays with noted Israeli Director, Gil Alon, and Royal Court Theatre, London actress, Paddy Navin. Avantika also runs a global consultancy that focuses on soft skills.
