A MORNING OF HINDUSTANI BANDISH

The hour-long concert will be presented by vocalists Ansuya Behl and Jessica Mahadevan, who will sing a selection of classical Indian raags and traditional bhajans to provide a glimpse into the riches embedded in this art form. They will be accompanied by artists on the tanpura, tabla and harmonium.

Both Ansuya and Jessica have had training in the Gwalior, Agra and Kunwar Shyam gharanas. The program will begin with both vocalists singing a Kabir bhajan made famous by Kumar Gandharva--Yugan Yugan Hum Yogi, followed by Raag Nat Bhairav, (a favorite morning raag) and Raag Yaman. Finally, hindi film songs to illustrate the difference between the classical and popular forms of Raag Yaman. The duo will end with a shabad composed by Guru Nanak, Ab Mai Kaum Upaya Karun.

This promises to be a very interesting musical morning. Indus ladies don't miss this opportunity!
