INDIAN SILVER

 

Indian Silver long coveted in the west was produced from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. There are several distinctive styles, each varying in form, decoration, and technique categorized by the region in which they were made.

 

Today we trace its journey to the West during the Raj.

 

Mr Shivaji Rao Gaekwar, is the Deputy Director and a Specialist of Modern and Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s in Mumbai. He specializes in Art & Art History and has a degree in History from the University of Cambridge.
