THE HERMES HORSE
Hermès was founded in 1837, as a harness-maker, and naturally its first “client” was the horse. It is therefore evidence that this noble animal should be the star of The Hermès Horse. First shown in China, to herald the opening of the Hermès Maison in Shanghai in honour of the Year of the Horse, this unique exhibition now travels to Hermès’ flagship store in Mumbai from the end of October for only its second outing.
The exhibition’s curator, Philippe Dumas, artist and member of the fifth generation of the Hermès family, shares his playful vision of the horse as seen by Hermès, moving between historic treasures and modern-day curiosities. Unique pieces drawn from the private Émile Hermès Collection and objects created in the special orders ateliers both at Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris are joyously juxtaposed with especially chosen items of Indian origin, in an exhibition that celebrates the roots and beginnings of Hermès.
