EVERYBODY’S SON BY THRITY UMRIGAR

Anton, a young black boy, was only ten when his life was irrevocably changed. He was left alone in a sweltering apartment for 7 days by his crack addicted mother. Hot, hungry, and desperate, Anton shatters a window and climbs out.

He is taken by social services and finds himself as a foster child, living with a prominent white family. A family who is still recovering from the grief of losing their only child.

“Everybody’s Son” deftly explores issues of race, class, privilege, and power and asks us to consider uncomfortable moral questions in this probing, ambitious, emotionally wrenching novel of two families - one black, one white. An emotional and absorbing read with an excellent premise.
