INDUS DEBATE

The Nirbhaya incident in Delhi brought the horrors of rape from the backward areas of U.P. and Bihar into the urban areas of India. This was followed by the Shakti Mill gangrape.and suddenly Mumbai, that prided itself as a city safe for women, was outraged. The confident, young, Indian professional and homemaker did not feel safe anymore. There was a clamour to revise laws, to make juveniles also responsible for their actions and women’s security became a national subject even during the general elections.

This debate is introduced as a platform for Indus members to express their thoughts and share their views. Ladies, each and every one of you is invited to vote at the end of the debate on the motion placed before you –

“Rape is a heinous crime and deserves the death penalty”.
