HISTORY OF STUDIOS AND ART RESIDENCIES IN INDIA

Saloni Doshi is taking us on a journey of the history of studios and art residencies in Mumbai. A treat to those interested in learning about the existence of artists’ studios and residency spaces in India-their past, present and future.

The first residency in India was started by the Sarabhai’s in Ahmedabad and today there are roughly 30 functioning in different parts of the country.

Saloni Doshi, Founder of Space 118 provides studios and residencies on a short-term basis to artists as part of its commitment to supporting emerging art practitioners from all parts of the country and the world.

Saloni also dabbles in writing for the Arts and Culture pages of TOI. Saloni was recently awarded the prestigious ArtThinkSouthAsia (ATSA) Fellowship 2015-16 sponsored by Khoj, British Council and the Goethe Institute.
