AMERICA FOR BEGINNERS

Leah Franqui is a Puerto Rican, Jewish, Philadelphia native. Settled in Mumbai she will be present to talk to us about her maiden novel, “America for Beginners.”

Recently widowed, Pival Sengupta is 60 and has never left Kolkata. Her late husband, Ram, had cut off their son Rahi after he came out as gay. He told her Rahi died in Los Angeles but Pival never accepted the news and now she is planning her first trip ever to find out the truth for herself.

The book weaves a heartwarming and eye-opening view of the US from a foreigner’s perspective. It is a story of a mother who has to come to terms with her son’s sexual preference and lifestyle, after his death.

“America for Beginners.” is a feel-good, heart-warming and smile inducing read. In case you would like a signed copy from the author, please bring the book.
