WELFARE-WHAT DOES IT MEAN AROUND THE WORLD?

An extremely high level panel of 3 Consular Staff unpack the broader picture of ’welfare’ by discussing what ’welfare’ means in their country of origin.

What does welfare and the welfare state mean in different countries? How much responsibility does the State take on and how much is taken on by individual citizens or NGOs. What safety nets are there for citizens?

What does international welfare mean? Why do countries get involved in helping other countries deliver welfare? What focus do other countries have and why —with especial view to funding & supporting welfare in India?

How do individual citizens and NGOs bridge the gap between Government welfare and the total welfare needs of a country?

* Colin Wells, Deputy British Deputy High Commissioner, Mumbai

* Tim Hall, Vice Consul, Australian Deputy High Commission, Mumbai

* Anja Klos, Consul of the German Consulate General, Mumbai

* Chaired by Smarinita Shetty, co-Founder, India Development Review
