SHADOW OF THE PALM  TREE

Vatsala Mendonca, a journalist, editor and scriptwriter, joins us to talk about her book Shadow of the Palm Tree.

Shortlisted for the Jaipur Book Mark’s Book Club 2018, Shadow  of the Palm Tree spotlights a little-known facet of Goan history... the presence of African slaves in Goa who were brought by the Portuguese from their colonies in Angola and Mozambique.

The novel tells the story of one Goan family, the Abreus, who as a result of their role in this lucrative trade received not just power, prestige and wealth but also a curse that snaked across the generations.

Shadow of the Palm Tree is a story of identity and survival, love and sacrifice, forgotten histories and cultural conflicts.

NOTE: In case you would like a signed copy from the author please bring the book.
