UNRAVELLING THE HIDDEN TREASURES OF BENARAS

Mark Twain say it all: ”Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.

A major religious hub in India, it is the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Varanasi is around 3000 years old city in the world. It is the most famous for its muslin, silk fabrics, perfumes, ivory works, and various sculptures. However, it is the exquisite jewellery and enamelling techniques which put Benaras on the world map.

Siddhartha Sacheti, CEO of Jaipur Gems, will give us an insight into the arts of jewellery making which originated in Benaras; he travelled to various parts of India and also influenced jewellery making across the world.
