CANDLES IN THE WIND
Today we have a film screening cum interactive session with Chandita Mukherjee, Executive Director of Comet Media Foundation, on how the women of Punjab have forgotten to sing the songs of harvest.
Nowadays, Punjab is in the news for the wrong reasons. The poster boy of agriculture, the Green Revolution, is in dire straits. Villages are put up for sale by impoverished farming communities that cannot make ends meet. Not a day passes that we do not hear of farm-related suicides. It is against this background that the stories of resilience and courage of the farm widows of Punjab standout.
The film explores the nuances of their defiant struggle as these women fight back to retain their toe-hold on the land they refer to as their mother. Kavita Bahl and Nandan Saxena, both National Award winning independent film makers come together and make this masterpiece on the silence suffering and brave struggle of survivors in rural Punjab.
