ADAPT formerly THE SPASTICS SOCIETY OF INDIA
The Spastics Society of India (SSI), now called ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together) is a non government organization (NGO) set up by Dr. Mithu Alur in 1972 when there were no services in the country for children with multiple disabilities. In 1999, when Dr. Alur’s thesis found a massive exclusion of children with disability from government programmes, the National Resource Centre for Inclusion (NRCI) was set up to promote the inclusion of people with disability in mainstream schools and society.
ADAPT provides services for assessment, treatment, education, counseling, vocational guidance and training, advocacy and awareness, women’s empowerment programmes and employment training. Many families both in Mumbai and around the country have benefited from our services.
Varsha Hooja is Trustee & CEO, ADAPT and the General Secretary of the All India Regional Alliance for Inclusive Education (AIRA). She will speak on the various projects of the organisation.
