Ikebana: Japanese Flower Arrangement
Ikebana, one of the traditional arts of Japan, has been practiced for more than six hundred years. It developed from the Buddhist ritual of offering flowers to the spirits of the dead.
The varying forms of ikebana share certain common features, regardless of the period or school. Any plant material - branches, leaves, grasses, moss and fruit, as well as flowers may be used. Asymetrical form and the use of "empty" space are essential features of the composition. A sense of harmony among the materials, the container and the setting is crucial.
Mrs. Purnima Shah, 1st master of Ohara school, and Teacher of ikenobo school, has been teaching ikebana for the last 25 years. She has conducted exhibitions, demonstrations and workshop all over India and also in Japan.
Do join us to see the different technique of flower arrangement and the live demonstration. It will be a pleasant morning surrounded by the beauty of nature.
There will be a charge of Rs.100
