REVIVING TRADITIONAL WEAVES

Learn about a new collection of contemporary handwoven weaves by corporate lawyer turned textile designer VINAY NARKAR.

He will be talking about his experiments with reviving the traditional sarees of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Vinay has worked with revival of the Ilkal saree of Sholapur, Maharashtra. It is the rare textile tradition in India that has not been influenced by the Moghul aesthetics. Working with the Gadhwal weavers of Andhra Pradesh, he has developed a special three-shuttle technique and combines different yarns within a weave to produce an innovative new fabric. Join us to hear about Vinay’s fascination for the silk fabric and sarees coupled with his passion for handloom textiles and the great work he is doing to keep these skills alive.

Please note, the venue does not have a lift and is situated on the 1st floor.
