DOOR STEP SCHOOL

Door Step School is an NGO that was started with the aim of addressing literacy amongst the marginalized sections of society. It provides education and support to the often-forgotten children of pavement dwellers, slum dwellers, construction site families and many other underprivileged families. Many of these children are not enrolled in school and have limited access to books and a place to study. The organization is trying to bridge this gap by bringing education to the “Door Step” of these underprivileged children.

Door Step School was established in Mumbai, India in 1988 and later expanded to Pune in 1993. It has impacted the lives of over 50,000 children since its inception.

Bina Sheth Lakshari, Co-Founder, Secretary and Executive Directorof  Door Step School, has taken the first non-formal education classes to the Dalit Ambedkar Nagar area. Ever since, her links to the communities have remained strong. As the organisation’s work and the team expanded, she took on the crucial leadership role and continues to head the Mumbai branch of Door Step School.
