DISBURSEMENT & WELFARE COMMITTEE

INAUGURATION OF JAL JEEVAN WATER PROJECT :

January 10, 2018, was a great day for this year’s INDUS International Welfare project: it saw the inauguration of our project to provide drinking water to three municipal schools.  Our Presidents Sandhya and Selma together with members Radhika , Elinor and Maya of the Disbursement Committee spent a most educative morning at one of the schools, i.e.  the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal School in Worli, where 575 students will now enjoy clean drinking water on the school premises. The water filters have been installed and will be serviced for the next three years under a maintenance contract.

The school has 3 language streams, i.e. Hindi, Marathi and English.  It was wonderful to see that students of the vernacular classes can avail of tuition in computer classes and the English language in programs offered by the Rotary Club Bombay. The enthusiasm of the students was an experience to see, their application was exceptional. Students of class 9 and 10 gave a demonstration of their various in-school as well as extracurricular activities.

The principal of the school was grateful for the involvement of INDUS International in improving the health of the students.  The school is well maintained and kept very clean.  In this connection the principal was mentioning the need for a few big dustbins to ensure the hygiene of the environment.  With reference to our write-up in our December Newsletter any contribution would be helping our project.  So far we have contributed Rs 3 lakhs out of a total  cost of Rs 5,35,764/--.  It is our intention to visit all 3 schools who benefit from our project from time to time to interact with the staff and the students to make our involvement more visible and vibrant.
