ART AT AUCTION

Using the example of Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Salvator Mundi’, which was recently sold at Christie’s New York for a record breaking 450 million USD, the discussion will explain how an auction house works to procure, research, exhibit and eventually sell a work of art. The talk will be conducted by Christie’s India Director and Senior Specialist Sonal Singh.

Sonal studied design at Central Saint Martin’s College in London, and Modern and then Modern and Contemporary Art at Christie’s Education, before completing a Master’s degree in Art Business with Sotheby’s Institute of Art for which her dissertation focus was the Indian art market.

She will deconstruct the mystery of auctions for us and explain the various aspects that come together to create a successful sale.

Since this event is taking place in Christie’s auction house, some of their current highlights on show are by Tyeb Mehta, FN Souza and Bhupen Khakhar.

This is a rare opportunity to hear about art auctions from one of the insiders of the Indian art market.
