CULTURAL TEXTILES: AN AUSTRALIAN INDIAN DIALOGUE
Australian Master Weaver Liz Williamson will give us a first-hand account of a unique cross-cultural collaboration between Australia and India. As a part of a University of New South Wales, Sydney, study program, a young group of contemporary Australian designers have been working with artisans in Gujarat and Bengal to come up with innovative ideas in textile design now to be displayed at the gallery.
After engaging extensively with the artisan communities and researching the rich traditions of the area, with the local craftsmen they have created works that lie at the intersection of both cultures while simultaneously reflecting the contemporary moment. The works capture an Indian spirit transformed by Australian eyes representing an equal meeting of worlds.
Do join us for what promises to be a fascinating exhibition.
