In May 2018 Christie’s had the privilege of handling the most sig-nificant charity auctions in the history of the art market. Unprec-edented in terms of the volume and quality of lots, the extent of the displays, logistics and operations, the number of viewers and bidders globally, and the final amount raised for the earmarked charities, the six auctions held over three days were a landmark event not just in the history of the market, but in that of collect-ing and philanthropy as well.

Nishad Avari is a Specialist and Head of Sale for South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art at Christie’s in New York. In addition to more than twelve years of experience at auction houses in New York and Mumbai, Nishad has worked with the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, during the seminal international exhibition on Picasso.
