THE STORY OF BLUE MOSQUE
Malvika Bhatia is a heritage and museum education professional. She completed her MA in Heritage Education and Interpretation from Newcastle University, UK, and has worked on education projects and programmes in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, London, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hampi. For the last two years, Malvika heads the Content Team at AudioCompass, and has been building audio interpretation for museums and heritage sites in India and abroad. Audio Compass’ vision is to be a local friend to travellers at places across the world.
Malvika will tell us the story of The Blue Mosque, the azure domes of which are perhaps the most iconic symbols of worship in all of Istanbul. Marie-Luise von Ribbeck, a German girl who sailed to Constantinople (as it was called then) in the 19th Century, seeking adventure, will tell you its stories. She is now just a forgotten memory in an old chronicle, but she doesn’t really mind. She would much rather tell you about Sultan Ahmed I, the unpopular king, and his greatest legacy - the Blue Mosque.
