CLASSICAL DANCE IN INDIAN HERITAGE

Anuja Kanishka Samant, an exponent of Bharatnatyam for the last 24 years, started dancing at three, then enrolled at the Gopi Krishna Institute to learn Kahtak. Later, she studied Bharatnatyam under her Guru Smt. Anjana Dongre. Anuja believes that dance is a medium to connect with our inner self.

Anuja has performed at several reputed classical Indian dance venues including Shanmukhanand, Rangsharda and  Rabindranath Natya Mandir. She has performed at the Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation Ashram, Bhaba Atomic Research Centre and for several fund raising shows for the Tata Memorial Cancer Trust.

Last year Anuja won the national dance competition conducted in Pune by Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh. And she, along with her troupe also won an award at the 2015 You Theatre Festival curated by Divya Palat.

Anuja will take us through the changes in dance culture, highlighting the importance of classical dance in preserving our heritage.
