Antique Collecting

Rajan Jayakar has advised many people on how to collect antiques and memorabilia.  In a talk given at a Moneylife Foundation workshop, his advice was to follow your passion because that eventually may lead to great investments. However, \"Collectors collect because they want to collect. It is the pleasure derived in accumulating these things that gives the collector a high, not the market value of what they hold,\" he also said at the workshop.

He will speak about how to turn a hobby into an investment and give tips on how to start, how to source items, to assign correct prices while buying and selling items, and how to preserve collectibles.

Mr. Rajan Jayakar, solicitor and renowned collector, has been interested in the history of Bombay since his time in college.  He has an extensive collection of prints, postcards and maps documenting Bombay’s evolution from a set of islands to the bustling city it is today.  In addition to his collection of Bombay memorabilia, he has special collections of vintage cars and Victorian furniture.
