The Journey of the ANWAR-I-SUHAILI

Anwar-e-Suhaili or The Lights of Canopus is a 16th century 200 page manuscript which is probably the first ever comic book, commissioned by Akbar possibly for his son Jahangir.

Anwar-e-Suhaili is not the only translation of the Panchatantra that has fascinated the world for at least two thousand years. The text has been hand-copied, lithographed, and printed innumerable times. Much before the secularism was reduced to a cliche, the stories of the Panchatantra were embraced by different cultures.

Katyayani is a History and Economics graduate, with an MBA degree whos pecialises in the restoration and conservation of art. She has completed a PG Diploma in Indian Aesthetics at Jnanapravaha Mumbai and aPG Diploma in History of Indian Art from SOAS, School Of African and Oriental Studies University of London.

She will take us on the journey of this ancient Mughal manuscript through many lands, peoples and languages and how it captured the world’s imagination. She will discuss the restoration work undertaken by the museum and how it finally became a part of the Prince Of Wales Museum collection.
