EMPOWERING RURAL COMMUNITIES

The Swades Foundation is based on the principle that our country cannot rise to its true potential without a fundamental transformation in the lives of people in rural India. It believes in a holistic 360-degree development with a focus on five verticals: community mobilization, water and sanitation, agriculture and livelihood, education, health and nutrition. This model empowers communities with the capability of creating choices for themselves and their families, allowing them to transform their own lives, ensuring permanent and irreversible change, and enabling the foundation to exit, setting up these communities up as role models and change agents for the rest of the country.

The "Swa" in its name reflects "empowered self" which forms the core of everything it does.

Swades is founded by Rohinton and Zarina Screwvala, and we are very lucky to have  Zarina herself with us to introduce us to this amazing venture.
