MARINE ARCHAELOGY AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN TEMPLE ART
Marine archeology is the study of shipwrecks, submerged ports and cargo found on the seabed. It is relatively a new field that helps reconstruct and build an exciting picture of this once thriving interaction, which shaped the economies, polities and cultures of this region.
Shivani Kapoor studied Economics at Delhi University. She is a guest lecturer at the very prestigious Jnanapravaha for Southeast Asian Art and Architecture. Her field of interest is temple art of Southeast Asia and the trade links which facilitated the movement of art in this region.
Currently India and China are both looking to revive the ancient maritime silk routes. This international trade saw the movement of goods all the way from the Mediterranean to China. Not only goods, but ideas, philosophy and art also travelled on this route.
