“THE BEAUTY & CHALLENGES OF CERAMICS”

Shayonti Salvi is an Interior Designer who trained in Ceramics at The Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry. She currently works out of her own studio in South Bombay where she makes pots, sculpture and teaches students to love clay.

“My heart’s escape is the ocean,” says Shayonti. Having witnessed some of the ocean’s many wonders while scuba diving, Shayonti is intrigued by the fluidity of forms and textures seen underwater. To bring in that movement in my work is a challenge. The ever-engulfing spiral, courses its way through shells, through waves, through seaweed, through tides and through my work”.  For Shayonti, being a ceramist is in many ways a testament to her love of art and nature. “What amazes me about ceramics, is its use of all the five elements of nature and for that, it is to me, a truly complete medium of expression!”

Shayonti will enlighten all on the beauty and challenges of ceramics as a medium of art expression, followed by a hands on experience, so that all the members can go home with a special keepsake.
