CELEBRATE HINA-MATSURI THE JAPANESE WAY

The 3rd of March is Hina-matsuri, the festival of Girls in Japan. People display a set of ornamental dolls in their house, which represent the wedding scene at the Imperial Court in Heian Era (8th Century) to celebrate the health, happiness and wishing for a happy marriage for girls. The custom of displaying dolls began during the Heian Period. Traditionally it was believed that the dolls possessed the power to contain bad spirits. Hina-matsuri traces its origins to an ancient Japanese custom called hina-nagashi (doll floating) in which straw hina dolls are set afloat on a boat and sent down a river to the sea, supposedly taking troubles or bad spirits with them. We would like to celebrate this special Women's day  with Indus members Japanese style with a demonstration of Origami paper folding,  gift wrapping with Furoshiki wrapping cloth and Japanese green tea.
