NEXT YEAR IN HAVANA BY CHANEL CLEETON

To be in exile is to have the things you love most in the world—the air you breathe, the earth you walk upon—taken from you.

After the death of her beloved grandmother, a Cuban-American woman travels to Havana, where she discovers the roots of her identity—and unearths a family secret hidden since the revolution.

The Perez family are wealthy, sugar farm owners in Havana in the late 1950s. The book opens with the family forced to leave Cuba. These are, the final months of despot Batista’s rule. Revolution is building and Che Guavara and Fidel Castro are amassing their fighters to take over the reigns of power.

The history of Cuba, Batista, Che and Castro are told in a bold, detailed fashion. The book talks about a revolution that promised much but delivered little.
