AVANTIKA AKERKAR

After having lived in New York for many years, Avantika Akerkar returned to India to work on civic and social issues.  

However, through a serendipitous encounter in 2001, Avantika took to the stage and film, and television soon followed. 

 Since then she has acted in many plays, most notably the original cast of the Vagina Monologues that is one of the longest running plays in India.  

She loved performing in Mira Nair’s theatrical adaptation of Monsoon Wedding in New York, and will produce her second play in March.

Her television credits include Thackeray, 83, Mission Majnu and Mukhbir where she played Indira Gandhi, and in several other shows.  

Some of her film credits are The Second Best Marigold Hotel, where she had the pleasure of acting with Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith and other noted British stage actors, The World Unseen which showcased at London and Toronto Film Festivals, and the critically acclaimed Loins of Punjab; and closer to home, Rockstar and Noor to name a few.

She was privileged to act with Naseeruddin Shah in the Filmfare award winning short film, Rogan Josh, and has had the distinct pleasure of working with other stalwarts as Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Amitabh Bacchan, Shabana Azmi, Adil Hussain and many more.

Today Avantika will take us through her interesting journey and share stories - but no gossip!  Hope you will join us.
