The frescos of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan
Katyayani Agarwal is the founder of Datri Foundation, an Art Historian and independent advisor for Museums. She is passionate about Indian heritage and culture, and through her foundation has initiated several skills centres in across the country to revive and promote traditional arts with a focus on empowering women at grassroots. She is on the National Advisory Board of INTACH.
Since 2017, Katyayani has collaborated and is working pro-bono as an advisor and consultant for a local NGO, Shruti Foundation, for the resurgence of the Shekhawati region in Rajasthan.
Katyayani will discuss her work restoring and conserving the frescos that adorn the havelis, Chhatris and temples in the region of Shekhawati, particularly the town of Ramgarh Shekhawati. She will take us through the history of the wall paintings, the techniques, materials, and subjects painted, subjects that range from Indian epics, folk tales, everyday life and also politics of the time.
