Building a grassroot network of artisans, and connecting them globally

In this session, Dipali Khandelwal, communications consultant at Jaipur Rugs, will discuss building the best artisan proposition for the Global Hand Knotted carpet industry, by connecting artisans and customers directly to each other and nurturing co-creation.

Jaipur Rugs is a for-profit social enterprise that combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness, with the aim of benefiting all the people sitting around its rugs; customers, artisans, local communities, employees, suppliers, buyers and partners.

Founded in 1978 by NK Chaudhary, Jaipur Rugs revolutionized the carpet industry by creating an entirely new business model – working directly with artisans and empowering them and their communities with a sustainable livelihood.

Dipali will share the 3-phase Jaipur Rugs model that is enabling and empowering thousands of people across the globe. She will talk about the importance of frontline in a craft-based business, building self-management for deeper impact, and connecting rural artisans to international markets.
